About “The Life of Hunger”

Amelie, the daughter of a Belgian diplomat, grew up moving between cities including Tokyo, Peking, Paris, and New York, as well as Bangladesh. Her life experiences, from early childhood to her return to Japan in 1989, are explored in this work. The book includes her reflections on the Kobe earthquake, which occurred during her return. Through these travels and events, the novel examines the development of the self.
