About “The Man in the High Castle”

The Man in the High Castle is an alternate history novel by Philip K. Dick, published in 1962. It is set fifteen years after an alternative outcome of World War II, in which the Axis Powers—primarily Imperial Japan and Nazi Germany—have conquered the United States. The story explores the political struggles between these regimes and the daily lives of people under their control. The novel won the Hugo Award for Best Novel in 1963. It includes a "novel within the novel," which presents an alternate history where the Allies defeat the Axis. The book was adapted into a TV series beginning in 2015, with Dick's daughter serving as a producer. The novel was inspired by works such as Bring the Jubilee and the I Ching.
