About “The Moon Maid”
The Moon Maid is a fantasy novel by Edgar Rice Burroughs, written in three parts. The first part was begun in June 1922 under the title The Moon Maid. The second part was started in 1919 under the title Under the Red Flag, later renamed The Moon Men. The third part was titled The Red Hawk. Initially, Under the Red Flag was set in contemporary Soviet Russia, with the Bolsheviks as antagonists. Due to the political sensitivity of this setting, the story was changed to a science-fictional setting. In the revised version, the evil "Kalkars" take over the Moon and then the Earth, and are ultimately defeated in the third part. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
