About “The Name of the Rose”

It is the year 1327. Franciscans in an Italian abbey are suspected of heresy, but Brother William of Baskerville's investigation is overshadowed by seven bizarre deaths. In the last week of November 1327, novice Adso da Melk accompanies Brother Guglielmo da Baskerville, a former inquisitor, to the abbey on a diplomatic mission, where he must unravel murders through clues ranging from the behavior of saints and heretics to necromantic writings and manuscripts in unknown languages. A 1980 novel by Umberto Eco.
