About “The Pearl”
The Pearl is a work of literature by John Steinbeck, first published as a short story in 1945 and later expanded into a novella two years later. It follows pearl diver Kino and explores man's purpose, greed, defiance of societal norms, and evil, inspired by a Mexican folk tale Steinbeck heard while visiting La Paz, Baja California Sur, in 1940.
