About “The Phantom Tollbooth”

The Phantom Tollbooth is a 1961 children's fantasy novel by Norton Juster, illustrated by Jules Feiffer. It follows a bored boy named Milo who receives a magic tollbooth and drives through it in his toy car, arriving in the Kingdom of Wisdom. The kingdom is in trouble, and Milo meets Tock, a dog who tells time, and the Humbug, a tricky companion. Together, they embark on a quest to rescue the exiled princesses, Rhyme and Reason, from the Castle in the Air. Along the way, Milo learns about the value of knowledge and language. The story is filled with wordplay and puns, including an island called Conclusions, where idioms are taken literally.
