Althalus is a thief, liar, occasional murderer, braggart, and a man devoid of honor, yet he becomes humanity's champion against an ancient god bent on returning the universe to nothingness. Seeking to steal The Book from the House at the End of the World, he meets Dweia, a cat-formed goddess who teaches him the Book's secrets while her evil brother uses his own Book's dark magic to rewrite history, leaving Althalus to gather a ragtag group with no reason to trust him or each other.
