In 1976, four women flee their Spanish convent after being forced to leave its walls. They are Lucia, a survivor with a secret from Sicilian clan wars; Graciella, a woman burdened by past guilt; Megan, an orphan seeking shelter with a Basque rebel; and Teresa, a believer struggling with faith. As they enter a dangerous world, they become involved in a conflict between the Basque underground and the Spanish army led by Colonel Ramon Acoca, who is determined to destroy them. Each woman faces a journey of self-discovery and unexpected destinies. The novel is written by Sidney Sheldon, who has also authored "If Tomorrow Comes," "Master of the Game," "Rage of Angels," "Bloodline," and "Windmill of the Gods."
