About “The Shining”
The Shining is a 1977 horror novel by Stephen King. It is his third published novel and first hardback bestseller. The story is set at the Overlook Hotel in the Colorado Rockies, where Jack Torrance, a struggling writer and recovering alcoholic, takes a job as a caretaker. His family joins him, including his son Danny, who has psychic abilities known as "the shining." The novel draws on King's personal experiences, including a visit to The Stanley Hotel and his battle with alcoholism. The story follows the family as they become trapped in the hotel during a winter storm, leading to terrifying events. A sequel, Doctor Sleep, was published in 2013.
