About “The Story of Kullervo”

Kullervo is raised in the homestead of the dark magician Untamo, who murdered his father, kidnapped his mother, and attempted to kill him three times as a child. He finds solace in his twin sister, Wanona, and the protection of the magical black dog Musti. After being sold into slavery, Kullervo vows revenge against Untamo, but he discovers that even in seeking retribution, he cannot escape his tragic fate. The story, which spans only forty pages, is followed by essays and commentaries on Tolkien's work and its sources.
