About “The Thirty-Six Dramatic Situations”
The Thirty-Six Dramatic Situations is a list created by Georges Polti in 1895 to classify all possible dramatic situations in stories or performances. Polti based his work on classical Greek texts, as well as classical and contemporary French works, and a few non-French authors. He acknowledged Carlo Gozzi, who had previously identified 36 situations, as an influence. The list aims to cover every possible dramatic scenario in narrative or theatrical form.
