About “The wealth of networks”
Yochai Benkler writes about the significant changes in how information is produced because of the Internet. He introduces the concept of social production, which is changing markets and offering new ways to support freedom, cultural diversity, and justice. However, these benefits are not guaranteed. There is a campaign to protect the old information economy, which could block the potential of the new networked environment. Benkler explores how the creation and sharing of information and culture are changing. He shows that the way information is made available can either restrict or expand people's ability to create and express themselves. He also discusses the legal and policy choices that affect this process and argues that the decisions made now will have major consequences.
