About “The well of the saints”
Martin and Mary Doul are blind and homeless tramps who beg in a village where the locals deceive them into believing they are exceptionally beautiful. After a saint blesses their eyes with water from a holy well, restoring their sight, they gain a painful awareness of their true condition and the harsh reality of their lives, which strains their marriage as their sight begins to fade once more.
