About “The World of Yesterday”
The World of Yesterday: Memoirs of a European is a memoir by Austrian writer Stefan Zweig. It is considered the most famous book on the Habsburg Empire. Zweig began writing it in 1934 after leaving Austria for England, fearing Anschluss and Nazi persecution. He later moved to Brazil. The manuscript was typed by his second wife, Lotte Altmann, and sent to the publisher the day before both Zweig and Altmann committed suicide in February 1942.
