About “Time and Again”

Time and Again is a 1970 novel by Jack Finney. It follows Si Morley, a commercial artist in Manhattan who is recruited by a mysterious man from the US Army for a secret government project involving time travel. The project trains individuals, particularly artists, to use self-hypnosis to imagine themselves in the past. Si travels to 1882 New York, where he experiences the city and develops a relationship with Julia, a woman who does not believe his claims of being a time traveler. The novel includes period photos and newspaper engravings that enhance its authenticity. It explores themes of paradox and the butterfly effect, while also evoking nostalgia for the past. The book's use of images creates a sense of realism, making the impossible seem plausible.
