Tunc is the first of two novels that together form a narrative about the scientist Felix, who is inducted into Merlin, a powerful and enigmatic firm. Felix becomes married to the ill heiress Benedicta, gains immense wealth, and experiences psychological strain as he attempts to escape the firm's control, ultimately resulting in the death of his son, his incarceration in a mental asylum, and the capture and death of his lover Iolanthe.
