About “Ultramarine”

Ultramarine is the story of Dana Hilliot's first voyage as mess-boy on the freighter Oedipus Tyrannus, bound for Bombay and Singapore. It depicts his struggle to gain the approval of his shipmates, his attempts to emulate their behavior in the bars and bordellos of Chinese ports, and his efforts to remain faithful to his first love, Janet, in England, alternating between his own narrative and the seamen's ribald humor and colorful language.
