About “Wanderers Nachtlied”
"Wanderer's Nightsong" is the title of two poems by the German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe. They were written in 1776 and 1780 and are among his most famous works. Both poems were first published together in Goethe's 1815 Works, Volume I, under the headings "Wandrers Nachtlied" and "Ein gleiches." The second poem was set to music by Robert Schumann in his Lieder und Gesänge, Volume IV, Op. 96. Both poems were also set to music by Franz Schubert, who catalogued them as D 224 and D 768.
