About “Witchcraft today”

Witchcraft Today is a non-fiction book written by Gerald Gardner and published in 1954. It presents Gardner's views on the history and practices of a theoretical witch-cult, based on his claim to have met practising witches in 1930s England. The book supports the discredited Witch-cult hypothesis, which suggested that persecuted witches were actually practitioners of a surviving pagan religion. It also includes Gardner's theory that the Knights Templar practiced this religion and that belief in faeries in Europe was due to a secret pygmy race. The book is considered one of the foundational texts for the religion of Wicca, alongside Gardner's later work The Meaning of Witchcraft from 1959. (Summary adapted from Wikipedia, CC BY-SA 4.0.)
