The World as Will and Representation is a non-fiction work by the German philosopher Arthur Schopenhauer. It was first published in 1818, with the title page listing 1819. A second, two-volume edition was released in 1844, with the first volume being an edited version of the original and the second volume offering commentary on its ideas. A third, expanded edition was published in 1859, the year before Schopenhauer's death. In 1948, an abridged version of the work was edited by Thomas Mann.
