When the worlds of Ranger's Apprentice and Brotherband cross over, action and adventure follow. King Duncan of Araluen sends Hal and the Heron Brotherband on a mission after an assassination attempt on Princess Cassandra is stopped. The killers, bound by honor, continue their quest. With Ranger Gilan, the Herons travel to Arrida to track the killers through the desert and infiltrate their mountain lair. They also face a seaside battle, helping an old friend of Araluen. Struggling in an unfamiliar land, the Herons must complete their mission before the killers reach the princess.
