About “Arsenic and Old Books”
In Arsenic and Old Books, Athena, Mississippi librarian Charlie Harris, known for walking his Maine coon cat Diesel on a leash, is asked by mayor Lucinda Beckwith Long to preserve a set of Civil War-era diaries donated to Athena College. The diaries could benefit her son Beck's state senate campaign, but his rival Jasper Singletary wants access to expose the Long family's past, and a history professor also wants the books for tenure, before the interest in them turns deadly.
