In A.D. 327, a Roman galley escapes a pirate attack with a valuable cargo. In 1916, a British warship explodes in the North Sea. In the present day, several important mosques in Turkey and Egypt are destroyed by explosions. These events appear unrelated, but they are connected through a series of Roman artifacts found in Turkey and Israel. These artifacts are linked to a fundamentalist movement seeking to restore the Ottoman Empire's former power. A mysterious "manifest," lost for centuries, is central to this plot.
