About “Maskerade”

The story follows Agnes Nitt as she leaves Lancre to pursue a career at the Opera House in Ankh-Morpork. Granny Weatherwax and Nanny Ogg also go to Ankh-Morpork to collect payment for Nanny’s cookbook and to recruit Agnes into their coven. Agnes joins the chorus and meets Christine, a more popular but less talented performer. The Opera House Ghost begins murdering people and demanding Christine be given leading roles. Agnes is asked to sing from the background, unaware of the deception. The witches investigate, with Granny posing as a patron and Nanny joining the staff. Agnes identifies Walter Plinge as the ghost, but others doubt her. A suspect is found to be part of the Cable Street Particulars. The witches discover the Opera House’s finances are deliberately ruined to hide theft. It is revealed that two people were pretending to be the ghost. Walter, the real ghost, was manipulated by another to commit the crimes. With the witches’ help, Walter overcomes his fears and helps stop the murderer.
