Federalist No. 58 is an essay written by James Madison, the fifty-eighth in a series of The Federalist Papers. It was published on February 20, 1788, in The New York Packet under the pseudonym Publius. The essay addresses concerns about whether the U.S. House of Representatives would increase in number as the country's population grew. The title of the paper is "Objection That The Number of Members Will Not Be Augmented as the Progress of Population Demands Considered."
