About “The best man to die”

The fourth book in the Chief Inspector Wexford series, originally published in 1969, follows the investigation of a man and his daughter who die in a car accident. No other vehicle was involved, and the cause remains unknown. The only survivor, their mother, Mrs. Fanshawe, is in a coma for six weeks. When she wakes, Wexford is already focused on a new case: the discovery of a dead body by the canal. The two cases seem unrelated, but Wexford senses an unexplained connection. Just as he begins to question the separation of the cases, the daughter from the accident is found alive at her mother's bedside.
