About “Atlantis”
Atlantis is a fictional island described in Plato's dialogues Timaeus and Critias, presented as a naval empire that conquered much of Europe and Libya before being destroyed by a natural disaster. The story serves as an allegory contrasting the maritime power of Atlantis with the land-based Achaemenid Empire, while portraying Athens as a model of Plato's ideal state. The island is said to have submerged into the Atlantic Ocean after losing divine favor following a failed campaign against Athens.
