On 3 January 2026, the United States conducted a military operation in Venezuela, codenamed Operation Absolute Resolve, resulting in the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores. The strike, which began at approximately 2 a.m. local time, involved bombing infrastructure to suppress air defenses and an assault on Maduro's compound in Caracas, with the captives transported to New York City to face trial for drug trafficking. The operation lasted 2 hours and 28 minutes and is sometimes regarded as a military conflict due to the injury of seven U.S. soldiers.
