Juan Cabrillo and the crew of the Oregon are drawn into a dangerous situation when they discover a group of valuable paintings worth half a billion dollars. They soon learn that a Filipino rebel leader is using the paintings to fund an insurgency. This leader has also found a drug from World War II, originally developed by the Japanese but never used, that enhances soldiers into superhuman fighters. The novel draws on real historical research, referencing Norman Ohler's work on drugs in the Third Reich. The story combines espionage, adventure, and historical elements.
