About “An Echo in the Bone”
Diana Gabaldon's An Echo in the Bone is the seventh novel in her Outlander series. It follows the story of Jamie Fraser, a eighteenth-century Scotsman, and his wife Claire Randall, a twentieth-century woman who travels through time. Jamie is torn over the American rebellion and his relationship with his son, a British officer. Claire is determined to protect Jamie's life and happiness. Meanwhile, their daughter Brianna and her husband Roger MacKenzie live in the twentieth century. They discover Claire's letters, which reveal the couple's experiences during the American Revolution. The letters describe Claire and Jamie's escape from North Carolina and their encounters with privateers and battles at sea. The novel also features historical figures such as Benedict Arnold and Benjamin Franklin. An Echo in the Bone explores the connection between the past and the future, and the MacKenzie family's ties to colonial America. The novel was published in 2009.
