About “Thebes at War”
Thebes at War is a novel by Egyptian writer Naguib Mahfouz, first published in Arabic in 1944. It is set in Pharaonic Egypt and is part of a series of early novels by Mahfouz, which also includes Khufu's Wisdom and Rhadopis of Nubia. These works share a historical setting and were later translated into English. An English version of Thebes at War was published in 2003. All three novels were collected in a single volume titled Three Novels of Ancient Egypt. The book explores themes related to ancient Egyptian history and society.
