Horace travels to the land of Nihon-Ja, where he becomes involved in a conflict that is not his own. The Nihon-Ja emperor, a leader who supports the common people, is overthrown, and Horace, along with Will and their Araluen friends, must work to restore him to power. They face a dangerous mission with uncertain outcomes, as the group is inexperienced and the path home to Araluen remains unclear. This is the tenth book in the Ranger's Apprentice series, written by John Flanagan in 2010. The series includes titles such as The Ruins of Gorlan, The Burning Bridge, and The Siege of Macindaw.
