About “Cicada Queen”
Cicada Queen (1983; set in 2354) is a story in the Shaper/Mechanist universe featuring Hans Landau, a Shaper coming of age politically within Czarina-Kluster, a faction-independent habitat marked by backroom dealings and social cliques, whose stability is weakening. Wellspring, a visionary rogue Mechanist and proponent of post-humanist philosophy, serves as Landau's mentor. The narrative explores the early development of C-K and Wellspring, later elaborated upon in the novel Schismatrix.
