About “The Hound of the Baskervilles”

The Hound of the Baskervilles is a crime novel by Arthur Conan Doyle, the third in a series featuring Sherlock Holmes. It was first published in serial form in The Strand Magazine from August 1901 to April 1902. The story takes place in 1889 on Dartmoor in Devon and follows Holmes and Dr. Watson as they investigate a murder linked to a supernatural hound. The novel marks Holmes' return after his apparent death in The Final Problem. It is one of the most well-known Sherlock Holmes stories and was ranked as the best of the four Holmes novels in a 1999 poll. In 2003, it was listed as number 128 on the BBC's The Big Read poll.
