Arthur Conan Doyle
1859–1930·British
Arthur Conan Doyle was a British writer and physician born in Edinburgh in 1859, best known for creating the legendary fictional detective Sherlock Holmes and his partner Dr. Watson. His Sherlock Holmes stories, beginning with "A Study in Scarlet" (1887), transformed the detective fiction genre and remain widely read more than a century later. Beyond his famous detective series, Doyle wrote science fiction, historical novels, and adventure stories, including the Professor Challenger tales, before his death in 1930.
