This novel follows Sookie Stackhouse, who witnesses the firebombing of Merlotte's bar where she works. With Sam Merlotte known to be two-natured, suspicion falls on anti-shifters, though Sookie suspects otherwise. She becomes distracted by a plot from her lover Eric Northman and his "child" Pam to kill the vampire who is now their master.
