The USS Enterprise is sent to the icebound planet Nordstral to investigate an outbreak of insanity. Upon arrival, the crew uncovers a more dangerous mystery: a team of research scientists has vanished without a trace. While Uhura and Chekov work to uncover the fate of the missing scientists, Kirk and McCoy search for the cause of the mental illness. Both teams face life-threatening dangers as the planet experiences severe earthquakes and electromagnetic disruptions. Cut off from the Enterprise, they must solve the mystery of Nordstral before the planet's chaos destroys them. The story is part of a 1992 novel by L.A. Graf.
