The U.S.S. Enterprise faces a deadly alien fleet. Gamma Xaridian, a peaceful Federation research colony, is the third Federation world attacked by a mysterious alien fleet. With Lt. Uhura away on an important mission, Captain Kirk and the Enterprise investigate the attacks but find the planet devastated. When another nearby colony is attacked, the Enterprise encounters a fleet of small, fast, and deadly ships. Though they repel the attack, the Enterprise is severely damaged and the aliens escape. As Kirk and his crew prepare for their next encounter, Mr. Spock makes a startling discovery about the aliens' true purpose, which could have deadly consequences for the Federation and the Enterprise.
