It was first published in serial form in All-Story Weekly, with the first part titled "The Eternal Lover" released on March 7, 1914, and the second part, titled "Sweetheart Primeval," appearing in four installments from January 23 to February 13, 1915. The book version was first published by A. C. McClurg on October 3, 1925.
