About “Pawn of Prophecy”

The Belgariad is a fantasy novel set in a world with a long history of conflict between gods, kings, and men. The story begins with the legend of the evil god Torak, who once tried to take control, and the sorcerer Belgarath, who helped men recover the Orb that protected them. The prophecy says that as long as the Orb is at Riva, men will be safe. The main character, Garion, grows up on a quiet farm with his aunt, not believing in magic or prophecies. He is unaware of his special heritage and the dangers that lie ahead. A mysterious figure has haunted him for years, but he does not know the truth. His life changes when he is drawn into a magical and dangerous quest by people he loves but does not yet know. The novel begins with Garion's life of innocence, which is soon disrupted.
