The Darkest Minds is a young adult dystopian fiction series written by Alexandra Bracken, consisting of four novels and several novellas compiled in the collection Through the Dark, published between 2013 and 2013 with the first book, Never Fade, released in 2013. Set in a post-apocalyptic United States, the story centers on children who develop psychic abilities following a pandemic that results in the deaths of most adults. These children, known as psi children, are often detained in government-run camps due to societal fear and suspicion. The series explores the struggles of these psi children as they navigate a world that fears and exploits them, examining themes of resistance, identity, and survival as they form bonds, confront systemic oppression, and seek to understand the origins of their powers.
