Kiera Cass's The Selection Series is a five-book young adult dystopian romance series set in the kingdom of Illea, beginning with The Selection, published in 2012. The series centers on a televised competition called the Selection, in which thirty-five girls from different social classes are chosen to compete for the affection of Prince Maxon and a potential position on the throne. The first three novels are narrated primarily from the perspective of America Singer, whose experiences form the central narrative. The series continues with The Elite (2013), The One (2014), The Heir (2015), and The Crown (2016), with the final two books set twenty years after the events of the first three. Later books focus on America Singer’s daughter, Eadlyn, and her participation in a new Selection. The series includes companion novellas and a prequel titled The Prince, released in 2013 and set before the events of The Selection.
