About “Messenger”

"The Giver" is the first book in a trilogy by Lois Lowry. It is commonly taught in 8th and 9th grade English classes and introduces the concept of a utopian society to young readers. The series includes a second book, "Gathering Blue," and a fourth book, "The Son," published in October 2012 for the 20th anniversary of the first book. "The Son" serves as a sequel to "The Giver" and addresses unresolved questions from the original story. While reading the middle books is not required to understand "The Son," the full series provides a complete narrative.
