Suzy McKee Charnas completed her epic series after thirty years. The story begins with Walk to the End of the World, in which Alldera the Messenger is a slave among the Fems, living under the control of men whose power is declining. The series continues with Motherlines, where Alldera the Runner escapes as a fugitive among the Riding Women, a group that lives a nomadic life, stealing horses and telling stories, while killing men who come near their territory. The final two books, The Furies and The Conqueror's Child, conclude Alldera's journey. The series explores themes of slavery, freedom, power, and human weakness.
