Nancy goes to the Kentucky Derby, where death is the dark horse. When Carson Drew invests in a Derby entry called Pied Piper, Nancy and Bess fly to the event. During a workout, an accident nearly injures the favorite Toot Sweet's jockey, and later he takes a nasty spill during the race. Nancy suspects foul play and tracks a treacherous opponent at the Run for the Roses.
