The Pendragon Cycle is a series of historical fantasy novels by Stephen R. Lawhead, published between 1987 and 1997, based on the Arthurian legend and exploring the mythic and historical elements surrounding King Arthur and Merlin. Set in ancient Britain, the series examines the rise of Arthur as a leader, the mystical development of Merlin, and the legendary fall of Atlantis, emphasizing themes of destiny, leadership, and the connection between myth and history. The original plan was for a four-book series, but due to the publisher's decision to discontinue the line after three books, the initial set became known as The Pendragon Trilogy. Lawhead later continued the series with two additional books, Pendragon and Grail, set between earlier events in the story, and a sixth book, Avalon, written later and set centuries after the earlier events.
