About “She Who Became the Sun”
In 1345, China is under harsh Mongol rule, and the Zhu family's eighth son, Zhu Chongba, is marked for greatness, though no one understands how. His second daughter, a clever and capable girl, is destined for nothingness. After a bandit attack leaves the siblings orphans, Zhu Chongba dies of despair, and the girl uses his identity to enter a monastery as a male novice. Determined to escape her fate, she learns to do whatever it takes to stay hidden. When the monastery is destroyed for supporting a rebellion, Zhu is forced back into the world. She joins the rebellion, but it faces a deadly threat from a feared Mongol general. As she seeks power, Heaven watches to see if she truly deserves the fate she has taken.
