About “The Path of Daggers”

The eighth book in Robert Jordan's The Wheel of Time series begins with a renewed Seanchan invasion. The Seanchans use flying reptiles and enslaved female magic-users, along with powerful soldiers, many of whom have joined out of fear of the Dragon Reborn. The Dragon, Rand al'Thor, appears in a small part of the story, where he experiences the trauma of his magic killing friends, deepening his fear of harming those he loves. The first third of the book is slower, focusing on character development, but the action intensifies. Compared to earlier volumes, the story is more compact. It maintains the series' strengths, including detailed world-building, multiple perspectives, unique magic systems, and a focus on ordinary people affected by the heroes' actions. Jordan's careful writing and imaginative storytelling have earned him a large audience. The book is praised for its skill and originality, though it does not reach the mythic level of Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings.
