A Thousand Deaths relates to Capitol (1979), Orson Scott Card's second published book and his first work of science fiction. Capitol is a collection of eleven short stories set in the Worthing series, no longer in print; six of its stories were reprinted in The Worthing Saga (1990) and one in Maps in a Mirror (1990).
