Tom Swift Jr. is called upon by the United States Government to investigate a mysterious green object in outer space that disrupts radio communications and poses a threat to national security. After the Orb's electromagnetic power endangers his spaceship, Tom designs robot astronauts equipped with three-dimensional TV cameras to probe the object, uncovering a secret alliance between the Orb and a ruthless scientific group on Earth.
